There are 48,500 hectares of japonica, indica (both for eating and for processing), japonica-waxy and indica-waxy type rice, black glutinous rice and purple aromatic glutinous rice cultivation in Changhua county, and the major varieties are TN11, TK9, TC192, TK16, Koshihikari, TC194, TN16, TCS10, TCW70, TCSW2 and TNGSW24. There are 4,800 hectares of japonica rice cultivation in Nantou county, and the major varieties are TN11, TK9 and TC192.

In our directive region in 2016, there were 10 contract farming conglomerate groups of rice production and marketing—Taichung Wu-Feng District Farmers' Association, Tachia District Farmers' Association, Changhua Tianzhong District Farmers' Association, Nantou Tsaotun Township Farmers Association, Rice House Universal Co. Ltd., Yeedon Enterprise Co. LTD. (Chuntang), Unionrice Enterprise Co. LTD., Firstrice cooperative, Hongyuan Rice Miller and San-guang Co. LTD, and the total areas accounted to 3,700 hectares, which accounts for 17.7% of contract farming conglomerate groups of rice production and marketing in Taiwan.

Organic Rice Cultivation

The areas of organic rice cultivation in our directive region are about 96 hectares, which are mostly surrounding Dajia and Waipu region in Taichung city, Erhlin township, Hsichou and Pitou township in Changhua county. It accounts for 5.2% of areas of organic rice cultivation in Taiwan (1,843 ha ).
