選育出之菜豆新品種臺中二號，其親本來源為 1995 年自日本大學生物資源部海外協力學科蔬菜研究室經種籽交換而來，品系代號為 Peru1989-F-9-KJ-6 。經繁殖進行品系觀察，發現該品系具早生、結莢節位低、莢寬大而長、單莢重大等特徵。但上述園藝性狀均尚在分離，早生性及嫩莢型狀變異大，故著手進行純系選拔，經品系比較試驗，區域試驗，於 2004 年 11 月通過命名為臺中二號。其特性為極早生，播種至 50% 植株開花為 30 日，嫩莢始收日數為播種後 38~40 天。莢型優美為寬扁莢型，長 24 cm 、寬 2 cm 、厚 0.7 cm 、單莢重 20 g 以上、曲莢率少、肉質細嫩、無筋絲。
The new snap bean variety Taichung No. 2 is bred from Peru1989-F-9-KJ-6 by selective breeding method, its origin from the vegetables laboratory of biology resources Department of Japan University through seed exchange in 1995. The characters of origin line Peru1989-F-9-KJ-6 tends to early harvest, low pod setting position and pod shape is wide and long, the single pod weight is heave. But the above horticultural characters still at separation, the early harvest disposition and the tender pod shape variation are very serious, therefore takes steps by pure line selection. The new variety was named for Taichung No. 2 after pass through line comparison trial and regional testing in November 2004. Which is extremely early taking 30 days to 50% of flowering and another 8-10 days to harvest tender pods. The pod exquisitely for the widely flat pod, the length has 24 cm, width has 2 cm, thickness has 0.7 cm, and weight of each pod is more than 20 grams. It has a good shape of appearance, the pulp is delicate and the tender pod is stringless.
