本試驗自 2003 年一期作至 2004 年二期作，連續兩年四期作在臺中區農業改良場進行田間試驗，探討有機質肥料施用時期對於稻米品質之影響。試驗為避免因病蟲之危害，而影響肥料之實質表現，因此於水稻生育全程均以適當化學藥劑控制病蟲害之發生。以稻米品質而言，有機質肥料之施用以 雞糞堆肥 12 ton/ha 做為基肥，第一次追肥菜籽粕 1 ton/ha ( 一期作移植後 30 天，二期作移植後 20 天 ) ，第二次追肥菜籽粕 1 ton/ha ( 一期作移植後 50 天，二期作移植後 30 天 ) ，可以獲得最優之碾米品質及食味品質。以產量及稻米品質並重而言，一期作建議 施用菜籽粕 4 ton/ha ， 分三次施用，基肥 2 ton/ha ，移植後 30 天施用第一次追肥 1 ton/ha ， 移植後 50 天施用第二次追肥 1 ton/ha 。二期作建議施用菜籽粕 4 ton/ha ， 分三次施用，基肥 2 ton/ha ，移植後 20 天施用第一次追肥 1 ton/ha ， 移植後 40 天施用第二次追肥 1 ton/ha ，均可獲得較高之產量及較佳之稻米品質。一期作以臺稉 9 號具有較優稻米品質，二期作則以臺農 67 號具有較優稻米品質。
This field experiment was carried out at the Taichung District Agriculture Improvement Station from the first crops of 2003 to the second crops of 2004. It is to investigate the effect on rice quality during the application of organic fertilizer. To avoid pest damage affecting the real performance of the fertilizer, pesticide was used for pest control during the rice plantation. According to the quality of rice, when 12 ton/ha of chicken manure was used as base fertilizer, and 1 ton/ha of rape seed meal was served as first top-dressing (which was applied 30 days after transplanting on the first crop and 20 days on the second crop), and again 1 ton/ha of rape seed meal was served as second top-dressing (which was applied 50 days after transplanting on the first crop and 30 days on the second crop), the highest milling and eating quality can be achieved. To consider both yield and quality of rice, the experiment suggests to use rape seed meal 3 times for 4 ton/ha in total and 2 ton/ha of base fertilizer during the first crop, and applying 1 ton/ha of the first top-dressing and second top-dressing 30 days and 50 days after transplanting. For the second crop, the results suggest to apply rape seed meal 3 times for 4 ton/ha in total and 2 ton/ha of base fertilizer, and the first top-dressing was applied at the 20 days and second top-dressing at 40 days after transplanting. Both crops can achieve higher yield and better quality. Tai keng 9 and Tainung 67 had better rice quality than other varieties on the first and second crop, respectively.
